Snoring: Causes, Treatment, and How To Stop Snoring (print)

We've all seen it. The iconic cartoon character's "sound of choice" when in sleep: snoring. While providing easy indications to children that a character is sleeping, snoring is most definitely not as common as cartoons would have us believe -- after all, cartoons don't have to worry about doing anything to stop snoring at all. Digressions aside, here is a quick introduction to the physiology of snoring, as well as what snoring cures, devices, and relief remedies are available to stop snoring. (This page will be updated continually as I find more snoring treatment online.)
Causes of snoring
When one snores, a piece of tissue in the mouth called the 'soft palate' oscillates with air flow. (To feel your soft palette, try taking your tongue to the roof of your mouth, and go backwards until you feel a soft piece of tissue -- it might even tickle a bit!) Oscillations of the soft palate can be attributed to many factors; a major one of which is age. As one ages, the muscles that support the soft palette begin to grow weak and relax. The relaxation of these muscles drops the soft palette whenever one is in a supine position, leading to soft palette oscillations.
Another cause could be alignment of the upper body and head. Bad sleeping posture can close airways necessary to proper breathing during sleep. With less volume for air to travel in, a tiny 'vacuum' is created that exerts force on the soft palate, thus causing it to oscillate and finally produce the sound of snoring -- yet just another complication in trying to stop snoring.
To the rescue: Treatment to Quit Snoring
A variety of snoring treatments have been developed over the years to help stop snoring. These devices often emphasize proper alignment to ensure that the most optimum of body alignments is maintained during a good night's sleep to maintain the openness of airways. The Informed Buyer shall talk about two in particular, as well as our initial recommendation.
SleepEzzz: The Alignment Sleep Pillow

SleepEzzz is, without doubt, the best solution to fixing sleep alignment to stop snoring for its price. Often enough you'll come up upon snoring treatments that are hugely expensive and inflated in price; luckily, SleepEzz is only in the $60 dollar range, which is quite low-end, given the current market situations. My Snoring Solution: Snoring Treatment via Jaw Strap

My Snoring Solution is an interesting concept that aims to open airways via a jaw strap. Somewhat of a drastic measure, My Sleeping Solution can be somewhat effective if all other solutions have been tried and not much success to quit snoring has been found. It's a little pricey -- in the $70 range -- but it would definitely be a good idea if SleepEzzz doesn't work.Visit their website.
